At only 17 years old, David Urbanke has accomplished what many fashion photographers will spend their careers dreaming of. In a short few months he has established himself as a wonder boy about the New York fashion scene, already shooting regularly for some of the major NY model agencies such as Ford, Elite and Wilhelmina. His recognition in the notoriously hard-to-break fashion industry appears to be mounting at an astounding pace – the level of skill and beauty demonstrated in his images, after so little time behind the lens, continues to render me speechless each time I catch a glimpse of his new work.
His photographic style has become unmistakeable to my eye, particularly for his signature aesthetic of creating quite minimal, natural portraits yet juxtaposing these softer elements with an urban setting. He has an incredible eye and huge talent at capturing a deep sense of mood in his portraits – I especially admire his ability to ‘paint’ with light, producing gorgeous tones and textures in his images that add to their whimsical, beautiful nature.
He is easily one of the photographers whose work I admire most today and I will continue to watch this space closely, as there is no doubt he is destined for great things and has an incredible future ahead of him.
